Turkey will have 33million visitors by 2012

Turkey has recently witnessed remarkable growth in its tourism sector, particularly over the last two years. The country recorded over 26 million visitors in 2008 and despite the global economic climate numbers are expected to reach 33 million by 2012. This news comes from a recent report by RNCOS, “Turkey Tourism Industry Forecast to 2012”.

According to the report, the country is becoming a popular destination for healthcare tourism, especially for the European citizens. Other factors such as rapidly growing income levels, government support and Turkey’s strategic location, situated between the three continents, are anticipated to drive the future growth of the tourism industry.

The report also accounts insights and opinions by key players in the tourism industry such as Hilton Hotels Corporation, Accor Hotel Group, Marriott International, Inc., Turkish Airlines, Air France-KLM, EgyptAir Holding Company, Emirates, Dedeman Hotels & Resort and Ihlas Holding A.S.

While every other European destination suffered from a decline ABTA have recorded just over 25% more tourists visiting the country this year so far. Further, Turkey actually saw an increase in US visitors this year; a feat few nations can claim to have accomplished during this difficult economic period.
