Turkey attracting medical tourists

Turkey is attracting medical tourists from European countries who are looking for more economical healthcare, compared to their home country. The current economic climate is encouraging foreigners to look for more cost-effective healthcare.

This search has led to Turkey being put on the map for being a popular destination for medical tourists. Turkey experienced a 40 percent growth in the number of foreign tourists from 150,000 in 2007 to 200,000 in 2008. Many foreigners are also attracted by Turkey’s vacation opportunities on offer, which influences many to combine their need for healthcare with their holidays.

According to the Association of Improving Health Tourism, Europeans prefer Turkey for specific healthcare treatments. It was further highlighted by the association that Turkey mostly receives patients from Belgium, United Kingdom, France and Netherlands. It is also estimated that Turkey’s income from health tourism could reach $10 million within the next three to five years.
